Miller Liston - Interim Pastor.
Jonathan Miller Liston was born December 22, 1936, in Richmond, VA. His father, Robert T.L. Liston was Pastor in Richlands, VA at the time. His mother, Maria Holman Liston, was the daughter of a country doctor in Goochland County, VA
When Miller was six, his father became President of King College and the family moved to Bristol. He attended the public schools through the 9th grade and Darlington School in Rome, GA, where he graduated.
Following 2 years at King College, Miller joined the Navy as a Naval Aviation Cadet, erning his Navy Wings in 1959. He was stationed in Jacksonville, FL, and Roosevelt Roads, Puerto Rico. He left active duty in 1961, but served in the Naval Reserve until 1996 -- 12 years as a pilot and 27 years as a Chaplin, retiring with the rank of Captain.
Miller returned to King College and graduated with a BS in biochemistry in 1963. He was accepted into the University of Tennessee Medical School, but left after one year to enter Columbia Seminary in Decatur, GA.
Following his graduation from Seminary in 1967, Miller served churches in Tampa, FL, Rogersville, TN, Moultrie, GA, Savannah, GA, and Big Stone Gap -- Norton, VA. Since his retirement he has served as Interim Pastor in Gate City, VA and Grundy, VA, Hillsville, VA, churches in Kingsport and Bristol, prior to coming to Greenspring Church in January, 2008.
Miller married Anne Clemmons from Columbia, GA on December 22, 1958. Anne is a graduate of King College and holds a Master's degree in Librarianship from Emory University. She has worked over the years as a librarian and as a school teacher. The Listons have 2 daughters -- Maria Ann, who is an Associate Professor of Anthropology and Classics at Waterloo University in Ontario and Margaret (Mrs. David) Reid, who lives in Fayetteville, NC and is the mothere of two little red heads--Maria, 8, and Andrew, 6. The rest of the family consists of Max and Cooper, Weimaranersand 5 cats.
Miller and Anne enjoy their farm in Hancock County, TN where they have built a log cabin. Miller enjoys his garden and yard in Bristol and working on old, wooden-works clocks. He no longer seems to find time for deer or quail hunting, fishing or golf.
